In order to pursue a private investigator career you must first carefully research the location you are in or the location you wish to become a sleuth. It can vary to the extreme degree of having to announce your application to follow a private investigator career to a very minimal degree of not having any kind of education at all.

In China, the private investigator career is very gray and shady. There is really no formal rules or regulations overseeing the private investigator career at all. The reason for this is that before a few years ago, there was no market at all for the private investigator career because the government was too strict. Even today, all they really allow and accept is the private investigator career in the field of seeking out companies that fraudulently manufacture items and sell them as brand names.

This demand is encouraged by the Chinese government and therefore approved. Spousal cheating is another acceptable area in China of private investigator career however most all other areas are strictly frowned upon. Last year there was a private detective found beaten to death in Beijing and since then, the rise in demand for private investigator career has become very high.

In New Zealand, to seek a private investigator career, you must get an application and apply to even become one. You also must take out an ad in the paper or by some other means and advertise your desire to consider a private investigator career. This gives the general public the opportunity to object to your private investigator career.

A police officer for example, may object to your application simply on the grounds that he has reason to believe you are dishonest. A criminal past within five years also gets your private investigator career halted before it even begins.

In this country it is also not permitted if you have previously held a license for a private investigator career and have had it revoked for any reason in the previous five years to applying for your license.

As you can clearly see, there are many options to seek a private investigator career. The days of the gumshoe sleuth are gone and in are the days of vast variety: internet fraud cases, identity theft cases, internet crimes such as pedophiles, right down to the age old investigations of unfaithful spouses, child custody, divorce cases and insurance fraud.
